Welcome to the quiet city. This website explores the work of electronic music pioneer and former Ultravox frontman, John Foxx.

I discovered John Foxx’s music back in 2001 when a friend recommended his debut solo single, “Underpass” to me. I knew who Foxx was, having heard the last album he recorded with Ultravox, Systems of Romance – an album I loved immediately, so I knew that his solo material would appeal to me, as a lover of electronic music.

I remember typing “John Foxx” into Google, and was directed almost immediately to his official website, metamatic.com. Just through browsing over the first few pages I could see there was an entire world of new and exciting music to explore, but being able to track down and own all these albums seemed like a dream away.

However, by coincidence, a new 'best of' compilation, Modern Art, was on the verge of release, followed by CD reissues of his first four solo albums. What perfect timing. I bought Modern Art on the day it came out, and that was my real introduction to Foxx's solo work - I was hooked right from the opening drone of “Underpass”. Hearing such a wide selection of tracks from his back catalogue was like suddenly being allowed to look through previously closed windows, into new, exciting places. I spent the following year buying up the reissued albums and tracking down his more recent releases. I was fascinated by Foxx's lyrics, artistic vision the world into which I had been projected.

Since 2001, John Foxx has been at his most prolific, releasing new material almost every year. This website pays homage to Foxx’s contribution to music, and the inspirational value of his work.
