JOHN FOXX & THE MATHS SINGLE DOWNLOAD

'Destination/September Town' is the first single from John Foxx & The Maths - the name given to Foxx's collaboration project with Ben Edwards (Benge). The forthcoming album was recorded at Benge's Play Studios in London, exclusively on vintage analogue synths.

The single is available to download as a package or two individual tracks, from Foxx's online store at Townsend Records.

October 2009

Synth Britannia

On Friday 16th October, John Foxx was one of several featured artists on the BBC4 documentary, Synth Britannia. The programme charted the rise of electronic music in Great Britain, following the breakthrough of Kraftwerk and their subsequent UK tour in the mid-70s. Other contributors included Phil Oakey (The Human League), Martyn Ware (Heaven 17/The Human League), Andy McClusky (OMD), Bernard Sumner (New Order), Wolfgang Flür (Kraftwerk) and Gary Numan.

Site updates

The Quiet Man has been added to the discography, and the tracklistings of the reissues of Shifting City and The Pleasures of Electricity have been added to the album pages.

Reissues & new releases

October 19th sees the long-awaited re-release of John Foxx's 'comeback' album Shifting City, and it's follow-up from 2001, The Pleasures of Electricity.

Shifting City is presented with a second disc containing the original Omnidelic Exotour recordings. The Pleasures of Electricity has been newly remixed for 2009, although the second disc in the package contains the original album, plus two unreleased tracks.

Also out in October, on Edsel Records, is In The Glow - a full set of live recordings taken from the 1983 Golden Section Tour (several of the tracks here were previously available on the 2003 Golden Section Tour/The Omnidelic Exotour double CD).

If that's not enough, then anybody who missed out on the limited edition run of 2008's Impossible and A New Kind of Man CDs will be pleased to know that they are also being reissued.

All of the above are available to pre-order from Foxx's official shop at Townsend Records.

Finally, the title of the next John Foxx album has been revealed as DNA...

John Foxx events and releases in 2009

In July there is a new exhibition in London entitled DNA. It will feature various audiovisual works inspired by John Foxx's output over the last thirty years from a wide variety of contributors including I, Robot and Knowing director Alex Proyas, and Gary Numan. More details can be found on the Quiet Man website.

To coincide with the exhibition, Metamatic Records are releasing the Quiet Man album, a spoken word CD containing some of the various urban stories from Foxx's ongoing novel of the same name.

Also in July, Foxx will be performing extracts from The Quiet Man, with VJ Karborn on visuals, at the Apple Store on Regent Street, in London. The event is on 24th July and will be introduced by writer and actor Mark Gatiss, of League of Gentlemen and Doctor Who fame. Entry is free and open to everyone.

Later in the year will see John Foxx appearing at a number of venues including the Leeds College of Music on 29th October where he will perform Tiny Colour Movies and The Quiet Man; the BCB Art Gallery in New York, will be hosting an exhibition of Foxx's Quiet Man artwork and multimedia from 7th November, with Foxx appearing for the opening; and on 5th December, Foxx will perform The Quiet Man at the University of Bath. Again, all details can be found on the Quiet Man website.

Later in the year will also hopefully see the release of Foxx's collaboration album with Leftfield's Paul Daley, as well as the long-awaited remasters of Shifting City and The Pleasure of Electricity.
